Forward Lymphoma was established to raise funds to develop a preeminent lymphoma research program at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Forward Lymphoma proceeds directly benefit the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in the form of advancing lymphoma based research. The Cancer Center is the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin and is one of only 38 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute, the lead federal agency for cancer research.
By providing dedicated financial support for lymphoma research, Forward Lymphoma guarantees that leading researchers have the funds required to be successful in finding cures for this disease. Under the leadership of Dr. Brad Kahl, lymphoma research will take an interdisciplinary, translational approach to research. Forward Lymphoma supports Dr. Kahl's innovative research approach combining traditional clinical trials, scientific research, along with translational research which seeks to bridge the gap between classical research and patient trials. This model promotes the physical proximity of researchers, doctors, and patients in order to more quickly advance lymphoma treatment and cures. Forward Lymphoma is the largest private fundraising organization for lymphoma research at the University of Wisconsin.
In 2007, Madison-based entrepreneur Ron Skoronski was diagnosed with lymphoma and was stunned to learn two things. First, the lack of information available about the 40 different kinds of lymphoma and second, the struggles that even a world class facility like the University of Wisconsin – Madison has in garnering funds for an 'unknown' type of cancer. After meeting with hematologist, Dr. Brad Kahl, Ron realized that they could become a team fighting against lymphoma and dedicated to finding cures. Ron personally donated $1 million to establish the fund which has ensured that important research could begin immediately and has allowed research to accelerate at a much faster pace. Ron realized that 'Forward' is not just his native state's political motto, but an important tenant of life for every lymphoma patient. He devotes his time and efforts to making Forward Lymphoma the leading fund raising organization for lymphoma research in the Midwest.
To improve the quality of life of people diagnosed with lymphoma and to move forward in finding cures by funding exceptional research at the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Forward Lymphoma works closely with the University of Wisconsin Foundation. All monies raised by Forward Lymphoma are donated to the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Canter Center via the Foundation. The Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt Wisconsin corporation and is the official gift-receiving organization for the University of Wisconsin and other donor-designated units of the UW System. Contributions to Forward Lymphoma are fully tax deductible as gifts made through the University of Wisconsin Foundation. Contributions to Forward Lymphoma will create opportunities to advance lymphoma research by establishing a world renowned lymphoma research facility at the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center. Creating an environment to advance the interdisciplinary, transitional approach to lymphoma research provides opportunities to finding cures for lymphoma. Research also provides advancements in treatments that improve the quality of life for lymphoma patients.
The short-term fundraising goal is $5,000,000. The founder of Forward Lymphoma, Ron Skoronski, started the fund with a personal donation of $1,000,000. As a lymphoma patient at the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center, Ron's donation has ensured that important research can begin immediately.
Your contribution will also enhance scientific research to focus on lymphoma biology and drug development. The construction of the Interdisciplinary Research Complex provides an opportunity to shape the future of lymphoma research. Specifically, your contribution will provide the following to help find cures and advance treatments:
Forward Lymphoma works with both individual and corporate donors to establish funds that help find cures and advance treatments. For every dollar contributed to Forward Lymphoma, 100% of that dollar will go toward advancing Lymphoma research programs that will help create a more advanced treatment schedule for patients and identify cures for this disease.
